Glossary
A carrier appointment is an insurer's formal authorization for a licensed producer to sell and service its products, usually filed with the state insurance department. A producer generally needs both a license for the line of authority and an appointment with the specific carrier before submitting business for that carrier in that state.
Appointment rules vary: some states require the appointment before the first application is taken, others allow it to be filed when the first application is submitted. Carriers also run their own contracting and background checks, and Medicare carriers add annual certification requirements.
Calculator leads can arrive from anywhere a page is visible, so agencies should route leads to producers licensed and appointed in the visitor's state. The lead record includes the page and campaign details, and the agency's own CRM handles the routing rules.
