A fixed annuity calculator for agents that shows the premium first

The visitor enters an initial premium, any monthly contribution, a guaranteed rate and years to grow. You receive the projected future value and, more importantly, the premium they are ready to place.

A fixed annuity calculator projects how a premium and optional monthly contributions grow at a guaranteed rate with tax deferral. Agencies embed it because it captures the single most useful annuity pre-qualifier — the premium amount — together with time horizon and rate expectations, so producers can prioritize real money and begin the suitability conversation prepared.

Included on every plan, including the free Producer plan.

What the inputs tell you before the call

InputsWhat it tells your producer
Initial PremiumThe premium the prospect is considering. It sizes the case, signals likely sources such as a CD maturity or rollover, and lets you prioritize follow-up.
Years to GrowMaps to guarantee periods and surrender schedules. A horizon shorter than typical surrender periods is a suitability flag to address early.
Guaranteed Rate (%)Shows rate expectations. If it is above what carriers currently credit, the producer needs to reset expectations before quoting.
Monthly ContributionA non-zero entry suggests a flexible-premium need rather than a single-premium product, and a prospect still in the earning years.

What is the right way to open a fixed annuity lead?

Confirm the premium and where it is coming from, then the horizon and liquidity needs. Best-interest rules expect you to gather this information before recommending anything, so treat the calculator inputs as the start of your fact-finding, not a substitute.

  1. 01"You modeled about seven years of growth. Is there anything in that window you might need this money for, like a home project or helping family?"
  2. 02"The premium you entered is a meaningful amount. Is it coming from a CD, a savings account or a retirement plan rollover? Each one is handled differently."
  3. 03"You assumed a rate a bit higher than most carriers are crediting right now. Can I show you what current guarantees look like before we compare options?"

Where to place it on your site

  • Retirement income and CD-alternative pages

Visitors comparing safe-money options are actively choosing where a lump sum goes.

  • Rollover and job-change content

People leaving an employer plan have a defined premium and a decision window.

  • Client newsletters for affluent personal lines books

A useful tool positions the agency as a resource and identifies clients with idle cash.

Which agencies should embed a fixed annuity calculator?

Annuity specialists, life agencies building a retirement practice and Medicare brokers whose clients are moving money at retirement. Fixed annuities compete with CDs and savings accounts for conservative money, so visitors who use a calculator are comparing options actively. The premium field separates browsers from people with funds ready to move.

Medicare brokers have a natural audience: clients turning 65 are often rolling over plans or sitting on cash. A fixed annuity calculator on a separate retirement page, kept apart from Medicare plan marketing, gives those clients a reason to raise the topic.

P&C agencies with affluent personal lines books can link it in a client newsletter as a service, then route leads to an appointed annuity producer.

What does the projection include and leave out?

It compounds the initial premium and monthly contributions monthly at a single guaranteed rate for the years entered, and shows future value, total contributions and growth. It does not include surrender charges, rate resets after the guarantee period, fees, riders, or taxes on withdrawal. Producers should present contract illustrations for the actual product.

Real contracts usually guarantee a rate for a set period and then credit a renewal rate subject to a contractual minimum. A visitor's chosen years may extend beyond a guarantee period, so the projection is a simplification.

The Definitions block covers surrender charges, tax deferral and the accumulation phase, which helps the prospect arrive with the right questions. Our article on annuity calculators and suitability explains how to use the inputs as part of a documented recommendation.

How do annuity best-interest rules affect calculator leads?

Most states have adopted the NAIC Suitability in Annuity Transactions Model Regulation with its best-interest standard. It requires producers to gather the consumer's profile — age, income, liquidity needs, time horizon, risk tolerance, existing assets — and document why a recommendation fits. The calculator starts that file, but it never replaces the producer's documented suitability review.

Treat the inputs as declared preferences, not verified facts. Record them, confirm them with the client and add the rest of the profile your carrier requires. Exchanges or replacements of existing annuities carry additional disclosure and comparison duties under state rules.

Terms the widget explains

Fixed annuity
A contract, usually with an insurance company, that credits a stated interest rate on the money you put in and later pays it out as a lump sum or a stream of income. Unlike a variable annuity, the balance does not rise or fall with markets. This calculator projects the value during the growth phase only.
Premium
The money paid into an annuity. The initial premium is the lump sum deposited up front; some contracts also accept additional premiums over time. This calculator compounds the initial premium and your monthly contributions at the guaranteed rate to project the future value.
Guaranteed rate
The annual interest rate the insurer promises to credit, often for a set number of years, after which it may reset. This calculator assumes the rate stays constant for the whole period and compounds monthly. Contracts often also state a lower minimum rate that applies after the initial guarantee ends.
Tax-deferred growth
Earnings inside an annuity are not taxed each year; tax is due when money is withdrawn. Deferral lets interest compound on the full balance, which is why the projection shows no annual tax drag. Withdrawn earnings are taxed as ordinary income, and early withdrawals may also face a tax penalty.
Compound interest
Interest earned on both the original deposit and interest already credited. This calculator compounds monthly, so each month’s interest is added to the balance and earns interest the next month. Over longer periods, compounding makes growth accelerate rather than rise in a straight line.
Surrender charge
A fee charged if you withdraw more than a permitted amount or cancel the annuity during the surrender period, usually the first several years of the contract. The charge typically declines each year until it disappears. This calculator does not deduct surrender charges or other contract fees.
Accumulation phase
The period during which the annuity grows before any payouts begin, entered here as years to grow. Premiums and contributions go in and interest is credited. It ends when you annuitize, take a lump sum or begin withdrawals; the calculator reports the value at that point.
Future value
The projected balance at the end of the growth period: the initial premium and all monthly contributions plus compounded interest. Total growth is the future value minus everything you put in. The figure is before taxes, surrender charges and fees.

Compliance notes for this line

  • Annuity recommendations are subject to state suitability and best-interest rules based on the NAIC model regulation. Gather and document the full consumer profile before recommending a product.
  • The projection is an estimate at a single assumed rate, not an illustration or a quote. Present carrier-approved illustrations and disclosures for any specific contract.
  • Many states require annuity-specific producer training before selling annuities; confirm the producer has completed it and is appointed with the carrier.
  • Capture TCPA-appropriate consent on the lead form if your team calls or texts, and keep that record with the suitability file.

FAQ

Questions agencies ask

Answers first, details after.

Why is the premium field so useful for annuity agencies?

Because it tells you the size of the case before the call. An annuity lead with a premium attached lets you prioritize, route to the right producer and prepare relevant options, instead of spending the first call asking how much money is involved.

Does the calculator illustrate a specific product?

No. It projects growth at a single rate the visitor enters, compounded monthly. It is not an illustration and does not include surrender charges, renewal rates, fees or riders. Use carrier-approved illustrations once you are recommending a contract.

Can prospects enter a rate higher than what is available?

Yes, and the lead will show it. That is useful: the producer knows to set expectations about current guaranteed rates before comparing products, which avoids a disappointing quote later.

Does this calculator satisfy best-interest documentation requirements?

No. It captures several profile points — premium, time horizon and rate expectations — but best-interest rules require a fuller consumer profile and a documented basis for the recommendation. Use the inputs as the start of the file.

Can a Medicare broker put this on their website?

Yes, as long as it sits apart from Medicare plan marketing. Cross-selling annuities to Medicare beneficiaries has its own sensitivities, including scope-of-appointment rules for the Medicare conversation itself. Keep the topics separate and check with your compliance contact.

How does the calculator handle taxes?

It shows tax-deferred growth with no annual tax drag and does not model withdrawal taxes or penalties. The Definitions block explains that withdrawn earnings are taxed as ordinary income and early withdrawals may face a penalty.

Will the lead tell us whether the money is qualified or nonqualified?

Not directly; the calculator does not ask. The premium and horizon tell you what to ask next, and visitors can add context in the optional message field. Confirm the source of funds on the first call, since qualified and nonqualified money are handled differently.

Which plan do we need for the fixed annuity calculator?

Any plan. The insurance calculators, including all three annuity calculators, are on every plan, starting with the free Producer plan and its 5-calculator limit. See the pricing page for higher limits.
