Glossary
Account rounding is the practice of writing additional lines of coverage for an existing client, for example adding life, umbrella or disability to a household that already has home and auto with the agency. Rounded accounts tend to be more profitable and are less likely to leave, because the relationship covers more of the client's needs.
The barrier to rounding is usually the awkward pivot: an auto client does not expect a call about life insurance. Calculators lower that barrier, because a client who explores their own coverage need on the agency's site has started the conversation themselves.
Agencies often place a cross-line calculator in client newsletters, renewal emails or the service section of their website. When a lead arrives from an existing client, the contact is matched to their record by email or phone, so the new numbers appear alongside what the agency already knows.
