Life insurance
Human life value (HLV) is the present value of the income a person is expected to earn for their family over the rest of their working life, after removing what they would have spent on themselves. It answers the question of what a breadwinner is economically worth to the people who depend on them.
Human life value is an income-based way to size life coverage, as opposed to a needs-based one that adds up debts and goals. It tends to produce a larger number for younger earners with long careers ahead, and it gives agents a defensible ceiling when a carrier asks how a face amount was justified during underwriting.
The human life value calculator asks for Annual Income, Years Until Retirement, Self-Consumption, Annual Income Growth and a Discount Rate, then returns the Human Life Value alongside Net Annual Income and Total Future Net Earnings. A producer who receives that lead can compare it with the needs-based figure and talk through why the two differ.
